{Between Two Belles} ♥ Emani’s Life Advice

Hey Prepsters!

Between Two Belles

Hey y’all! My motivation behind this segment is to acquaint y’all to some of the most inspirational and fabulous women I know. Each Wednesday you’ll be introduced to another “Belle”, get to know them, and gain a little knowledge. Let’s get started!

Meet: Emani Silva

Olivia: What do you study in school?

Emani: “I attend Washington College in Chestertown, MD, which is a liberal arts school with one of the most welcoming atmospheres I’ve ever experienced. There I’ll be majoring in Biology while on the pre-med track. One thing I’m super excited about is having the chance to play on the soccer team as well, so keep an eye out for #6!”

Olivia: How do you describe your style?

Emani: “Because I play soccer and I’m constantly juggling practice, school, and extra-curricular activities 9 times out of 10 you’ll probably find me sporting the usual nike running shorts and t-shirt combo. But when I actually have time to dress up like a girl and wear some real clothes I absolutely adore wearing things with patterns on it. If you ask anyone, I am the queen of all things tribal printed. From maxi dresses to jeans, anything I wear has to have some kind of pattern!”

Olivia: What’s something that makes you unique?

Emani: “Ugh, why is this so hard to think of!? I think my obsession with sunflowers, chicken nuggets, and Cristiano Ronaldo is pretty unique if you ask me.”

Olivia: What’s your favorite season?

Emani: “My favorite season has to be Fall! In all honesty, I’m the type of person that complains about it being too cold in the winter and when the summer finally comes, I complain about it being too hot.. so Fall is perfect for me. Plus, who doesn’t love football season, the return of caramel apple spice drinks at Starbucks, and come on, Thanksgiving. I’m a girl and I gotta eat.”

Olivia: All time favorite nail polish?

Emani: “OK so don’t laugh but I really had to go into my stash of nail polish, sift through them all and pick a pretty color. After about.. 5 minutes I settled on Sally Hansen Plum Luck. Reasoning?.. I just like the color purple.”

Olivia: What’s something you can’t live without?

Emani: “The one thing I can’t live without is my family. What I love about my family is that they’re unlike any other. We do the weirdest/coolest things you could ever dream of. For example, for Thanksgiving last year, we had a pajama party… who doesn’t love the chance to sport a onesie!? But in all seriousness, they are my biggest cheerleaders, my best friends, and my rocks in life. You can find them taking up a whole section at my soccer games or grilling at our weekly family cookouts. So many of my friends have met them and left saying, “man I wish my family was close like yours.” I’ve gone through a lot and in all honesty, I wouldn’t be the person I am without their love and support”

Olivia: What’s your go-to order at Starbucks?

Emani: “In the fall it’s caramel apple spice. In the summer, I love iced caramel macchiatos. Winter, I have to go with peppermint hot chocolate. There’s too many for me to claim one as my favorite!”

Olivia: Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram?

Emani: “I think my favorite has to be tumblr. I feel like since not many people know about it and have one, I have the chance to really express myself and in all honesty, that’s what my tumblr page is… every emotion, every situation, every thought that goes through my head, so feel free to explore my mind”

Olivia: What are your social media links?

Emani: TwitterInstagram, and Tumblr

Olivia: What advice would you give to the average teenager?

Emani: “Where we are in life right now is such a weird and confusing time. We’re teenagers being forced to make life changing decisions in such a short amount of time and in all honesty, this is the time where we have to learn about who we are and how to come to terms with our own demons. With the combination of boys, drama, and self change… It’s pretty easy to see why so many people our age are dissatisfied with who they are. Although many people don’t know it and it hasn’t been until recently that I was comfortable enough to share it… I too didn’t like who I was during high school. I understand how people feel when they say they would much rather lie in bed all day and just scroll through their phone, how the sight of someone can trigger our emotions to the highest degree, and how some people truly struggle with looking themselves in the mirror everyday. What I want people to understand is that you have the power to change. You and only you. If you want to be more outgoing, put yourself out there and meet new people. If you wish you were smarter, spend more time with your head in a book. If you are tired of people ‘walking all over you,’ realize what you deserve in life and don’t stop til you get it. Know the person you aspire to be and make the necessary changes to become that person. To be happy with who you are and the life you’re living, you have to force yourself to overcome the small things in life that seem like the biggest challenges. People lied when they said high school is the best four years of your life and personally, I find comfort in knowing that our best days, the people we are meant to be with for a lifetime, most of that stuff hasn’t happened yet. There are moments when you’re going to want to draw back into yourself but I want everyone to understand that you too bring happiness to someone in this crazy world. You are important to someone and you were put on this earth to do something great. When it comes to the little things – people making you mad, someone leaving your life, having to battle your own demons – understand that things are put into our lives for one of two reasons: to teach us a lesson or to stay. Don’t stress over the small things when there is so much beauty in the world.”

Doesn’t she have a way with words? Love her!
