This week I am vacationing at my favorite beach with my extended family. It’s always a good time when we all get together. I’m sure many memories will be made and lots of laughs will be shared. Here are a few things I always do when spending time at the beach. Enjoy!
1. Lazy days and Literature
I never really have time to read when I am at home. I’m always busy running errands, working, or trying to get together with my friends. While I’m on vacation I try to unwind as much as possible. Last summer I made a post about some of my favorite Beach Reads. Right now I am currently reading Messy by Heather Cocks. You can find out more about it here. It’s pretty good but I think I liked the first book Spoiled better. Leave me a comment and let me know if I should post my beach reads for 2014.
2. Plugging In and Tuning Out
I’m usually most relaxed at the beach when I turn on some of my favorite songs . This helps me tune out to the madness around me; screaming children who want italian ice, Teenage girls taking tanning pictures and debating on which filters will make them look the most “savage”, and elderly couples discussing the economy. Right now I’m loving the songs “Boom Clap” and “Wasted“. I seriously can’t get either of them out of my head! I also am really into rap music recently. Major shoutout to my friend Laura for getting me hooked. I have a playlist entitled “3Hunna” that contains some of the sickest beat drops and freshest flow. (I’m sorry that was really ugly; I can’t believe I just typed that) *crying face emoji*.
3. Snacks for the Soul
I’ve probably said it a million and seven times but I simply adore frozen mango chunks. They are the perfect chilly snack for when the sun is beating down. I also love all kinds of fresh fruits. Recently I found a new snack that I’m slowly yet surely becoming addicted to: Peppermint Luna Bars. They taste like Christmas- YES, you heard me right… I have visions of sugar plums dancing in my head- what’s better than that? I also make sure I have lots of water! It’s so incredibly important to stay hydrated.
4. Impromptu Costume Changes
Bring some clothes with you incase your friends want to hit-up an outlet mall or go to dinner. Make sure it’s easy to change into and doesn’t take up too much space in your beach bag. I always bring a long-sleeve shirt with me because somehow I always end up shivering. Don’t forget your hat and some sunnies.
5. Captain Chapstick and Sidekick Sunscreen
Pause– I’m currently LOLing at these titles I’ve come up with. I don’t know if it’s the gross humidity or the ridiculous amount of coffee I’ve consumed over the course of the day. Today is one of those days where I think i’m hilarious and witty when i’m clearly not. Ok enough jabber let’s get back to the point… Always apply Chapstick and sunscreen when you know you are going to be spending time in the sun. Nobody want’s crusty, crispy (and burnt) lips and skin! PSA: If you don’t wear sunscreen you will develop wrinkles earlier (Ew). #OldLadyDrab
